Good News for the People of the Country from the Central Government

New Delhi: The central government is working on a new scheme to provide pensions to all citizens over the age of 60, whether they work in government or private sectors. According to national newspapers, this scheme, called the Universal Pension Scheme, will ensure that every citizen receives a pension once they turn 60. People working in government and certain private sectors have a portion of their salary deducted each month for retirement benefits, which is paid to them after reaching retirement age, typically 60.

In many sectors, employees do not have such facilities, and they often rely on the government or their family members after retirement. In sectors where it is available, 12% of the employee’s salary is deducted and deposited into the Employee Provident Fund (EPFO) account, with the employer contributing the same amount. The government also makes contributions for government employees. However, the government does not contribute for private sector employees. This amount is later given to employees in the form of a pension after retirement.

Certain groups of workers do not have access to such pension schemes. This includes women working in domestic roles, laborers in the construction industry, gig workers, and artisans. To support these groups, the central government has already introduced schemes like the Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan Yojana, and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan-Dhan Yojana to provide pension benefits to specific sections of the population.
